Coniston Copper

inHeritage are delighted to be working with Minerva Heritage and The Way Design to develop the interpretation and activity plans for the Coniston Copper Project HLF application. The project aims to conserve and interpret the fantastic archaeological sites that form the important copper mining landscapes at Coniston, Cumbria. The focus is on Coppermines Valley and Penny Rigg. They represent a four-hundred year-old mining and ore processing landscape dating to, at least, the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Coppermines Valley is a Scheduled Monument. Features include mine adits, buildings, inclines, trackways, settling tanks, wheel pits and leats – all set in some of the most dramatic countryside in England.
We will be working on behalf of the Lake District National Park Authority and project partners over the next two months.
